Creating a survey
From an empty survey to a finished one: the builder, every question type, and the bilingual workflow.
Creating the survey
Press New survey on the Surveys screen and give it a name. That name is internal — it is how the team finds the survey in the list, and respondents never see it. You will write the title respondents *do* see inside the builder.
The survey immediately gets a short web address of its own, built from the name — for example /s/leadership-2026. That address never changes, so a link you shared keeps working even after you rename or redesign the survey.
How the builder is laid out
Elements
The catalogue of things you can add. Click one and it drops into the current page. There is a search box for when the list gets long.
My survey
Your survey as a tree of pages and elements. Drag to reorder — with the mouse or with the keyboard — and click any element to select it.
Settings
Everything about the element you selected: its label in both languages, whether it is required, its options, and its answer limits.
Writing in both languages
Every piece of text a respondent reads exists in English and in Arabic, and the builder shows one language at a time. The English / العربية switch in the top bar flips every box in the builder at once — question labels, choices, table rows, the survey details — so you write a whole survey in one language, switch, and translate it.
- This applies to the survey title, the description, question labels, every choice option, table rows and columns, and the thank-you message.
- The survey title is required before you can publish — it is what appears at the top of the survey and in link previews on WhatsApp and elsewhere.
- The thank-you message is the last thing a respondent reads. Use it to say what happens next.
Every element you can add
| Element | Use it for |
|---|---|
| Short answer | A name, a job title, a single line of text. |
| Long answer | Comments, suggestions, a paragraph of feedback. |
| An email address, checked for a valid format. Adding one also turns on the automatic confirmation email. | |
| Phone | A phone number, with a numeric keypad on mobile. |
| Number | Ages, quantities, amounts. |
| Date | A day picked from a calendar. You can set an earliest and a latest date, and anything outside that window simply cannot be chosen. |
| Single response | Pick exactly one option from a visible list. |
| Multiple choice | Tick as many options as apply. |
| Dropdown | One option from a long list, without filling the page. |
| Yes / No | A single switch for a clear binary question. |
| Rating | A satisfaction or agreement scale. |
| Table | One grid that rates several things on the same scale — rows are what you ask about, columns are the answers. Far quicker to answer than the same questions one after another. |
| File upload | A document, certificate or photo — up to 3 MB each. |
| Text block | Instructions, a section heading, a consent notice. Collects no answer; supports bold, lists and links. |
| Image | A logo, a diagram, a photo the question refers to. Collects no answer. |
Settings on every question
- Required — the respondent cannot move on until this is answered. Use it sparingly; every required question costs you completions.
- Field name — the column heading you will see in the exported spreadsheet. It must be unique and use only letters, numbers and underscores. Choose something readable now (
school_name), because it is what you will be reading in Excel later. - Internal — marks a field as staff-only. Useful for notes and classifications that belong to your process rather than the respondent's.
Pages and images
Split a long survey into pages so it does not feel like a wall. Each page is a step with its own Next button, and progress is visible to the respondent.
Images can be uploaded, pasted in as a web address, or taken with your device camera on the spot. Give every image alt text — a short description that screen readers announce to blind respondents.
The builder shows a live counter next to every limit and turns it amber as you approach one. The exact numbers are in Limits.
Saving vs publishing
Save keeps your work as a private draft — nobody outside the team can see it. Publish makes the current design the live one that respondents get. You can save as many times as you like before publishing; nothing reaches the public until you press publish.
You do not have to press Save. The builder saves the draft on its own a couple of seconds after you stop typing, and again the moment you switch tabs or close the page. The indicator at the bottom left says Saving shortly… while an edit is pending and Saved, with the time, once it is stored. The Save Changes button (or ⌘S / Ctrl+S) is still there to save immediately.
Starting from a template
The New survey dialog offers a starting point rather than an empty box. Pick a ready-made survey and the survey begins with its questions already written — in both languages — for you to edit, delete and add to.
Custom
Opens first. Holds Blank survey — an empty survey, exactly as before — and every template your own team has saved.
Templates
The six ready-made surveys that ship with the platform, listed below. Each tab shows how many starting points it holds.
| Template | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Customer satisfaction | A satisfaction table across four service areas, a recommendation rating, and space to say what to improve. |
| Job application | Two pages: contact details and start date, then experience, qualification and a CV upload. |
| Event feedback | Which day they attended, an overall rating, a table covering content, speakers and venue, and how they heard about it. |
| Employee performance review | Six competencies on one four-point scale, plus what went well, where support would help, and an overall rating. |
| Training feedback | An agreement table over five statements, what was most useful, and which topics to run next. |
| Contact survey | Name, email, phone, a subject dropdown and a message. The shortest one. |
Save as template in the builder's top bar turns the survey you are editing into a starting point for everyone in the workspace. Give it a name in both languages and it joins the gallery. Only the questions travel — responses, the public link and the survey's settings do not.
